Helmholtz Programme Atmosphere and Climate - Research
To understand the role of the atmosphere in the climate system, scientists carry out complex measurements of atmospheric parameters as well as laboratory studies and numerical modeling of processes that play an important role in the atmosphere.
The research approaches include high-resolution satellite measurements of tropospheric trace elements, investigations referring the role of the middle atmosphere in the climate system, the variability of biogenic emissions and the use of atmospheric water isotopes to get a better understandig of the water circuit.
The programme is structured into four topics:
- Cloud and Weather Research
- Land Surface Processes in the Climate System
- Tropospheric Trace Substances and their Transformations
- Composition and Dynamics of the Upper Troposphere and Middle Atmosphere
